In 1994, Michigan learned that immunization rates in the state
were the lowest in the nation. In response, a partnership of public
and private sector organizations the Alliance for Immunizations
in Michigan (AIM) was formed to focus on a broad spectrum of
immunization issues in Michigan.
Given the low vaccination rates in Michigan at that time, the
initial focus of AIM was to emphasize provider education in an effort
to reduce missed opportunities to immunize. The AIM coalitions
concerted efforts were integrated into what became known as the AIM
Provider Tool Kit, a comprehensive resource for immunization management,
parental education, as well as other high-quality information sources.
The initial printing of the AIM Provider Tool Kit consisted of 5,000
kits and has grown in each successive year; over 8,000 kits were distributed
in 2006.
Today, the AIM coalition continues its focus on improving all facets
of immunization services in Michigan. AIMs mission is to
promote immunizations across the lifespan through a coalition of healthcare
professionals and agencies.
Specific goals include:
| 1. |
Raising the age appropriate immunization levels of all Michigan
children to at least 90%; |
| 2. |
Raising awareness among health care providers and the public
of the importance of immunization across the life span; |
| 3. |
Promoting participation in the Michigan Care Improvement Registry
(MCIR) by all health care providers; and |
| 4. |
Expanding AIM coalition education and development to include
at least two presentations annually directed toward improving
the coalitions proficiency and activities. |
The AIM Provider Tool Kit will continue to be a mainstay of the
coalitions efforts, with expanded access through the AIM website.
